We are both successful professional women in the area of IT and health care. It was our dream to create a gallery and cafe.  Vela Art Gallery and Cafe was a welcoming, contemporary space for people to relax and share what we love: good coffee together with tasty bites surrounded by creative art, and a shop offering a range of beautiful objects inspired by Nordic and German design. We enjoyed every minute.

Our initial aim was to run the cafe full time and step back from our busy NHS lives. However, we realized that neither of us wanted to give up our careers for good. We ended up running both the cafe and our full NHS work, so the opposite of our plan to cut back. On top of that Silke's mother is now in her mid 90s and we need more time to spend with her.

We therefore made the sad decision to close and the premises  are now for sale.
